Looking for live music in Edinburgh in February? Look no further.
Let’s be honest, February can be seen as a bit of a dull month. Christmas is over, your bank is still in recovery mode and it’s getting rather chilly out there as the typical ‘delayed’ winter is upon us.
It’s time to head indoors to a gig that’ll certainly warm you up. From intimate shows headlined by bands, you need to catch before they take off – Sea girls we’re looking at you – to a guarantee of a singalong – hello Razorlight – there’s plenty of top gigs in the capital in February!
To help you whittle your choices down, we’ve checked out the gigs across Edinburgh you should definitely check out!
Another Sky – 3rd February – Mash House – Tickets £9
With an air of intrigue around their releases, Another Sky will make their way to Edinburgh for what is bound to be an enthralling show as part of Independent Venue Week. Already announced for SXSW and UK festival appearances, including our little favourite Hit The North, Another Sky continue to enchant crowds with their atmospheric tracks. Frontwoman Catrin Vincent’s vocals are bound to be the talking point of the night as she seamlessly intertwines through releases with unexpected vocals, the Mash House’s intimate feel is only set to amplify this in a bubble of mystique. Latest track ‘Apple Tree’ is certainly worth checking out before you head along!
Razorlight – Liquid Rooms – 21st February – SOLD OUT
Razorlight made a triumphant return in 2018 following a ten-year hiatus, bringing with them their new album ‘Olympus Sleeping’ and winter tour to celebrate. With their return firmly rooted, much to the delight of 00’s indie fans delight, Razorlight will be back on the road doing what they do best. Albeit the band may have changed line-up compared to the hay days and switched to a more guitar pop-infused sound, but they continued to release radio-ready indie rock gems that we’ve grown to know and love and, of course, with a frontman like Johnny Borrell who effortlessly oozes charm is set to win over the crowd – just like it’s early 2000 all over again. Now to just hope for a few classics thrown into the set – who doesn’t want to belt out ‘America’ and ‘In The Morning’ clutching a pint with their pals?!
Palace – Mash House – 21st February – SOLD OUT
It was no surprise that as soon as they announced their return, the UK tour entirely sold out. In December, Palace returned with new music unveiling their enchanting track ‘No Other’ as they continue to carve their own musical path with their laid back indie sounds. Taking time away writing and recording new music at their studio in Tottenham, it seems fans may just be treated to a sneak listen into future releases at the intimate Edinburgh show. A chilled-out night awaits, but you’re bound to be captivated by each single as through headphones alone Palace manage to make it feel like you’ve stepped into every track, engulfed in the band’s engaging sound.
The Pale White – Mash House – 25th February – Tickets £8.80
Arguably from our point of view, as you’ll see by this list, The Mash House is slowly becoming the King Tut’s of Edinburgh booking bands before they break out. Recently Sam Fender wowed the intimate venue with his powerful voice ahead of the BRIT Award win while back in 2016 Fickle Friends headlined the venue before their recently released chart-topping album ‘You Are Someone Else‘. with shows coming up from some of the most exciting emerging bands around. The Pale White are no exception as they make the trip up from the ‘toon following the release of their new EP ‘Take Me To The Strange’. Featured as our TOTD on several occasions, alongside catching the guys live at Hit The North Festival, we know they’ll bring the energy to town with their infectious indie rock.
Sea Girls – Mash House – February 27th – Tickets £11
We’d been waiting what felt like forever until we finally managed to catch Sea Girls live at Hit The North Festival last year, but it did not disappoint. Crammed into a tiny room, their set flowed with energy and back-to-back tracks that could each individually land airtime on the radio. After this show, we made sure we were at King Tut’s for their headline winter tour and in just a matter of months they’d tightened up the set, breezing through with tune after tune, crowd interaction and infectious energy with their festival singalong anthems and an air of excitement in the air. Most recently shortlisted in BBC Sound 2019, Sea Girls have quite the year ahead and as the hype is only set to grow, these sized venues will be a thing of the past, get ahead of the curve and join the band’s musical journey before everyone else to close out February in style, ready for the year of music ahead – and so you can say you saw them first!
