Ruby Fields | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Been Doin’ It For A Bit’

Ruby Fields has released her debut album ‘Been Doin’ It For A Bit’.

Produced by longtime collaborator Chris Collins (Skegss, Gang Of Youths, Middle Kids) and mastered by John Davis (The Killers, Gorillaz, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Ray), the album celebrates where Ruby is at in life – a place of self-acceptance and triumph.

Ahead of the album release, we caught up with Ruby to delve into her music tastes. Speaking of her influences, she said: “I wouldn’t say I directly take influences or inspiration from anything but I definitely do love listening to music that makes me feel things, so these are just some of the artists I flogged while writing the album.”

Beach Slang – Dirty Cigarettes | Listen via Spotify
The drivey guitars are so sick in this song, listened to it heaps while doing the demos.

The Killers – When You Were Young | Listen via Spotify
The nostalgic elements of the instruments and lyrics are unmatched but we listened to their albums a lot while recording ours.

Phoebe Bridgers – Kyoto | Listen via Spotify
Everything Phoebe does is almost effortlessly incredible in terms of lyrics to performance to production. I guess I just tried to channel this.

Lucy Dacus – I Don’t Want To Be Funny Anymore | Listen via Spotify
A great example of keeping a clever sense of humour to a song while still keeping a musical but solemn aspect and getting your point across.

The Waterboys – We Will Not Be Lovers | Listen via Spotify
An incredible classic that just never gets old. I just remember listening to this song heaps at the time of recording.
