Saint Clair is gearing up to the release of her new EP ‘in the violet hour’.
Set for release on November 6th , Saint Clair has unveiled 3 tracks from the EP to-date, including previous LMLL Track of the Day ‘goddess‘.
To celebrate the forthcoming EP release, Saint Clair shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘in the violet hour’.
The Beatles – Because | Listen via Spotify
I’m a Beatles fanatic and don’t tend to listen to much else. ‘Because’ is a masterclass in lush close-part harmony singing but still with so much emotion and originality.
Nirvana – Something in the Way | Listen via Spotify
The most understated yet heart-wrenching song on ‘Nevermind’. The harmonies in the chorus and the way Kurt Cobain throws “yeah” out of his mouth with so much character is a great lesson in delivery and emotion over vocal acrobatics and so-called perfection.
Jeff Buckley – Lilac Wine | Listen via Spotify
Sorry, I’m sticking with the intense tear-jerkers here, but my new EP is about grief after all. Again, this is a masterclass in delivery and commitment to narrative and emotion. Jeff Buckley transmits so much in a single phrase, his voice fragile and powerful in equal measure.
Nat King Cole – Smile | Listen via Spotify
The sad song people sometimes think is happy until they really absorb the lyrics is one of the most beautiful and powerful paradoxes in songwriting. I usually cry when I sing this song but it ultimately has a hopeful message, especially when sung by King Nat.
Frank Ocean – Bad Religion | Listen via Spotify
This song’s conversational narrative is so intricate and candid it makes you lean in closer to listen to what might happen next. Frank Ocean’s delivery is so urgent and desperate he elicits an immediate emotional response. My friend can’t listen to the harmonic clash under the “love me love me” section but I think the discord adds to the sense of unease and fear.
