St Lundi has released his new EP ‘Heavy Words’.
Out now via Propeller Recordings, the EP features previously unveiled tracks, as well as the newly shared ‘Parachute’ and the EP’s title-track ‘Heavy Words’.
Speaking of the new EP, St Lundi said: “I feel as though I’ve learnt a lot through the process of writing this EP. I have worked with some amazing people and touched on topics that are so raw and real to most, including myself. The title ‘Heavy Words’ sums this EP up perfectly. It’s all about communicating with others, something I know I have struggled with and I know others that do too. I really believe that communication is so important in every aspect of life as it allows us to say how we feel rather than bottling it all up inside.”
To celebrate his EP release, we caught up with St Lundi to discover 5 tracks that have influenced his musical journey to-date.
Coldplay – O | Listen via Spotify
I love everything about this song. The dream-like production sounds, the piano leads and the vocal melody are all so amazing in such a unique way. Coldplay are great at doing this which is why you can often tell a song is by Coldplay before the vocal has even started.
Damien Rice – The Blower’s Daughter | Listen via Spotify
I grew up listening to this song as my mum would drive us to school. For that reason, it’s always been really ingrained into me. Damien Rice writes such heartfelt lyrics and melodies which is something I’ve always aspired to do.
Bon Iver – Perth | Listen via Spotify
I’ve been absolutely in love with Bon Iver since I was a teenager. There is something so special about what they do that I don’t think many can put their finger on. This song, in particular, rings out to me due to its musical parts. The drums in this song are so good and have definitely inspired me for when it comes to adding more live drums to my sound in the future.
Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here | Listen via Spotify
This is my favourite song of all time and was the first song I ever learnt on guitar at the age of 12 after my father recommended it. There’s a lyric in this song which I’ve always been so amazed by “We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl year after year” There is something so dark yet beautiful and poetic in that lyric and I feel that is something I aim for with my own lyrics.
JP Saxe – Same Room | Listen via Spotify
I have only been writing songs for a few years now and I remember when I heard this song I stopped what I was doing and was like “wow”. The lyrics are so conversational which in this case makes it even more heartfelt than if they were poetic. I think it’s easy to over-complicate everything when really the message you want to get across can just be that, in a way you’d tell your friends or family. This is something we can all relate to. It’s really inspired me to try and involve this lyrical aspect to my writing.
