T-A | 5 tracks that influenced ‘001’

T-A have released their debut EP ‘001’.

Recorded and Produced at Substation Studios in Rosyth by Magnus Collie, the EP was released alongside the band’s debut track ‘Far Away’.

To celebrate their EP release, we caught up with T-A to find out 5 tracks that influenced ‘001’.

Orbital – Lush 3-1 | Listen via Spotify
I first heard ‘3-1’ during the writing process for the EP, I was immediately in love with the way it sounds like the whole song is moving forward and pulling you along with it. Instrumentally it’s almost layered like a rock song, to my ear, which makes it feel instantly familiar. Also, the bass line is just infectious!

PIL – Theme | Listen via Spotify
PIL are a big inspiration to us as a whole, but ‘Theme’ in particular always stands out because its such a powerful opener to an album. I love it for its wall of guitar, cavernous drums and dub bass-lines, then Lydon’s salmonella-raw vocal to top it off

Stooges – We Will Fall | Listen via Spotify
We chose this song out of the many we could’ve picked from Stooges, because I find myself able to get lost in it every time and still fail to notice it’s over ten minutes in length. It has an almost hypnotic quality that is simply addictive. It also shows the godfathers of punk could still psych-out with the best of them.

The Who – I Can See For Miles | Listen via Spotify
It’s big and loud, the sound of 60’s pop turned up to 10. We love this song for the chaotic instrumentation with Roger Daltrey’s contrasting light and airy vocal and harmonies from the group in the chorus’. This song was pretty important growing up, as it was probably the first to show us that you don’t have to compromise a well-written pop song for loud noisy rock and roll. This was later validated for us by groups like Velvet Underground and Jesus and the Mary Chain.

Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats – Rocket 88 | Listen via Spotify
Unlike me, this song is fat and dirty in all the right places. Some say It’s the first rock and roll song. I don’t know too much about that or Jackie and his Delta Cats, but they sound like they know how to have a good time. We chose this one because it’s super fun and sexy, it puts you in a good place before a night out
