Track of the Day | City Calm Down – Stuck

City Calm Down have released their new single ‘Stuck (on the Eastern)’.

The band unveiled the new single as they announced the release of their third album ‘Television’, due out on August 23rd.

Speaking of the single, frontman Jack Bourke said: “After moving away from the city, I found myself stuck in peak hour traffic on the Eastern Freeway (in Melbourne) and was shocked that this scenario was a daily ritual. Some might say it’s a practical issue that requires a practical solution (i.e. building more roads etc), but in my view it’s more fundamental than that – it’s a symptom of our ‘aspirational culture’, where the primary aspiration is to consume. This song won’t change that, but it might make you laugh about it.”

Surrounding consumerism and the pressure of the rat race, the song’s loop reinforces the lyrical context of being stuck in this never-ending routine on the road to nowhere, packed with statements many will no doubt relate to and sing along out loud with – perhaps more ironically while on the way to work stuck in the very same journey…
