Track of the Day | Retro Video Club – Checkmate

Retro Video Club have released their new single ‘Checkmate’.

The track marks the bands first return since their 2-year hiatus and is the first single taken from their new EP, due out later this year.

Speaking of the single, Liam Allison said: “’Checkmate’ is a song about reflecting on your high school days & how the passing of time changes everything. It’s facing reality, realising you need to start growing up because life is starting to get serious. It’s ultimately life putting you in ‘Checkmate’, but you refusing to accept the game is over.”

Instantly recognisable with Retro Video Club’s distinct sound, the band has found their style – and does it well. Containing their signature indie-rock bopalong verses and uplifting singalong moments, the energetic track also introduces an unexpected spoken section that seamlessly slots in and is set to only add to its live performance.
