SHEARE has released his new single ‘Girlfriend’.
His self-titled ‘capri-Sun pop’ is a blend of indie, synth and dream pop drawing on influence from bands including The 1975, LANY and Lauv.
Speaking of the single, SHEARE said “I wrote ‘Girlfriend’ as an anthem for emotional ambiguity. At the time when I wrote the song, I had just moved to LA from NYC where I left a lot of my belongings along with my shattered personal life in boxes marked them “do not open”. As I was trying to get acclimated to the city, I was sitting in a cafe going through my emails when I found a letter from my ex-girlfriend. This scenario played out like John Huges film set in 2019, except rather than some big romantic gesture involving a dude in a trench coat standing outside of your window with a boombox, it was a regret-filled email, chronically a relationship that left me feeling alone more often than not. That’s the funny thing about being wronged by someone, you want so badly to have your ego validated and once you get it, you immediately stop caring. ‘Girlfriend’ is the result.”
‘Girlfriend’ is a shimmering indie pop-infused single that blends 80’s elements into the track creating an addictive synth-twisted single. The track portrays a clear vibe of one of his influences The 1975 throughout, particularly reminiscent of their single ‘It’s Not Living If It’s Not With You’.
