World’s First Cinema have released their debut EP ‘Rituals’.

Out now via B-Unique Records, the new release from the LA duo features three of the band’s recent singles alongside two brand new tracks immersing you in their theatrical storytelling world.

Speaking about their vision for the new EP, they said, “The ‘Rituals’ EP is the ground our castle is being built on.

“We wanted this first EP to be a sonic introduction to the band. Arguably more important than the songs themselves we wanted to communicate a tonal atmosphere with this EP. We are heavily inspired by the concept of where music meets film and want each of our songs to feel like their own movie.

“We use a lot of out of the box production techniques to create our music, it’s not exactly common practice in most popular music these days but it’s how we have the most fun. We love to take theatrical trailer scoring techniques and build them into more pop-centric song structures. This songwriting & production model paired with our obsession in horror movies, Dungeons & Dragons and cult iconography all culminates to create ‘World’s First Cinema’.

“We don’t just wanna create songs, we want to create worlds.”

To celebrate the EP release, we caught up with the band to find out 5 tracks that influenced ‘Rituals’.

Meatloaf – Bat Out of Hell | Listen via Spotify
Absolute classic banger. A nine-minute, fifty-second rock saga is exactly the level of music we aspire to. It’s extremely creative cuts like these that make us want to push ourselves further with our music. There is so much theatre and showmanship in this piece, even when it’s just playing through the speakers.

Howard Shore – Concerning Hobbits | Listen via Spotify
One of the first songs John remembers falling in love with. The entire Lord of the Rings soundtrack had that impact on him. The strings, epic rises, tragic falls and sheer scale of this soundtrack helped set the stage for a project like World’s First Cinema.

ford. – Bedford Falls | Listen via Spotify
The stop-and-go, lo-fi production on ford’s tracks is so tasty and so signature. Even though the flavour of the track is insanely different, ‘Red Run Cold’ also has this pulling, stop-and-go feel to the drop as well. We both listen to and love ford. and his lo-fi heaters.

Bishop Briggs – River | Listen via Spotify
Bishop really brought this huge, half time chorus back to pop. Like some sort of huge Soul, Rock EDM feeling. The conviction and power in the vocals and the crazy dynamics throughout the song were an inspiration from day one.

Motley Crue – Shout at the Devil | Listen via Spotify
Another classic for us. We rented a Mustang and tore through the desert, blasting this album the whole way back to LA from a writing camp. This kind of raw energy is a bit lost in today’s pop charts. We want to bring that drama and theatre back into play.
