ACROBVT have released their new single ‘Last Goodbye’.
The track is a follow-up to their recent single ‘Can’t Put You Down’ and was written with Mikey Demus from Skindred.
Speaking of the single, frontman Ben Edwards said: “I was caught up with someone and there was a time where she literally disappeared. This happened the same week I was heading into a writing session, and I vividly remember being in the studio and having to take time out because as we leant into what I was feeling; it was all a bit much. Although the story sounds bleak there is a strength in the song that is important to recognise. I was trying to say that I knew I was enough, and she just needed time to work it out. I think that positivity comes through and is empowering.”
To celebrate their single release, ACROBVT shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Last Goodbye’.
Imagine Dragons – Demons (Charlie)
‘Demons’ is a big anthemic song from Imagine Dragons. It’s ballad-esqe in its delivery’s while having a bed rock of huge hard hitting drums, something we felt was important to portray in our single ‘Last Goodbye’. It is also a song of struggles while still having an uplifting quality to it, another element we drew inspiration from and incorporated into ‘Last Goodbye’.
The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition (Ash)
A huge breakthrough track for The Temper Trap, transforming them from a small underground band to one playing stadiums overnight. The powerful message delivered with a hooky vocal, sitting on a bed energetic guitars and driving drums and bass provided the perfect inspirational platform for our latest single ‘Last Goodbye’.
OneRepublic – Counting Stars (Ben)
Ryan Tedder is a huge song writer, particularly in this instance his melody writing. He always manages to write catchy hooks that stick in your brain. We really wanted to stretch ourselves to write songs with big melody hooks in them.
Kings of Leon – Use Somebody (Sam)
I remember when Kings of Leon released their album ‘Only By The Night’ and how quickly they rocketed from underground band to being chart toppers. This album in particular became the sound track to life at uni for me. ‘Use Somebody’ is a great example of creating an anthemic yet emotionally driven song and that’s certainly something that we wanted to achieve when we writing ‘Last Goodbye’. Both songs have an pace, driving force and power coming from the instrumentation that lets the lyrics provide the emotional depth.
U2 – With or Without You (Ben)
A huge tune but what we liked about it was the space the guitars provided. We wanted to try and create this in ‘Last Goodbye’ so we used big reverbs and echoes to create the width adding a somber feel to the track to reflect the heartbreak. The powerful drum track again inspired us to add that element to ‘Last Goodbye’ which empowers the track hopefully the listener. There is a great bridge section where the guitars pick up pace and we wanted to create this dynamic in our bridge adding a fast strumming pattern to create urgency.
