Bryony Williams has released her new single ‘You Are Here’.
Speaking of the single, Bryony said: “The track is a lyrical document of my experience of walking the Camino Del Norte in 2021. After walking on average 30km a day for 4 weeks, your mind stops wandering after a while, and your thoughts are simply reduced to your earthly surroundings of nature’s elements. It was the final recording to complete the 10-track debut album, so I felt it as fitting for it to be the title track when it so finely sums up my current outlook on life after the spiritual experience of the Camino. For me, it helps draw a line in the sand and offers closure to my past self – it is a reminder to take life one step at a time.”
To celebrate her single release, Bryony shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘You Are Here’.
Norah Jones – Sunrise
Her album ‘Feels Like Home’ has become a prized soundtrack of mine, usually for when I’m in the mood for some calmness and clarity to accompany me while doing ordinary things at home and feeling wholesome. I love the simplicity of it.
Billie Marten – Vanilla Baby
Billie has been a constant influence in my more folk/acoustic songwriting and production. Her lyrics paint colourful imagery in my mind and she is such an inspiration to me. It is a code to be cracked as to how Billie can make these songs feel seamless when they all take you on a journey of some kind, with awesome and quirky chord progressions and lightly-touched by synthesizers.
Marika Hackman – any human friend
I’ve always ebbed and flowed with Marika’s music, and this particular track has something to it which mesmerises my ear.
Perhaps it is the delicacy of the innocent finger picking guitar paired with the feeling of anticipation.
Jessie Buckley, Bernard Butler – Footnotes On The Map
My dad introduced me to this track one day and it spoke to something in my soul, and so it played on repeat for a while.
Lucy Dacus – Cartwheel
During recording my upcoming album, I took myself off to the Forest of Dean to stay in a gypsy wagon and to be surrounded by nature and my own thoughts for a few days. In the evening, I would sit around the campfire for hours and listen to music for inspiration. This album by Lucy Dacus caught my attention, but so did this particular song, which I kept on a loop as I tried to make a connection between myself and the stars in the night sky.
