Conscious Pilot | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Wipe Clean’

Conscious Pilot have released their second EP ‘Wipe Clean’.

Recorded at Glasgow’s Green Door Studios, their new EP was created collaboratively by the band in a shared rehearsal space.

Speaking of their EP, the band said: “With our first music as a four piece we wanted to keep the distinctive linear arrangements and melody of our debut, but add in a sense of urgency. A danger that was born out of chemistry and a mutual respect for each other’s creativity. It was written under a spotlight in the middle of a room, each member trying to pip the others to the musical punch line. This resulted in a more confident sound, full of adlibs, spontaneity and fluid dynamics”

To celebrate their EP release, Conscious Pilot shared 5 tracks that influenced ‘Wipe Clean’.

Pylon – Crazy
When Emmy joined the band we instantly all connected over a shared love for Pylon and this song in particular. It heavily influenced ‘Filth Night’ especially the middle section where Emmy sings and the guitars open up.

DAF – Der Mussolini
Another ‘Filth Night’ influence came in the form of this German dance punk anthem. Listening to this we wanted to write something sharp and direct that didn’t waver in intensity.

Mock Media – Madness
Potentially our most played song in the tour van this year. The shared vocals and The Clash heavy influences on this record inspired us to lean into the punk aesthetic further, and the way the song switches in the middle felt like something we would do/have done on the EP.

Le Villejuif Underground – Le Villejuif Underground
Another van banger that caught our ears in terms of production. The track features drum machines, claps, toy noises, feedback, dramatic pauses that all seem very playful and creative and that’s something we wanted to emulate on the EP.

Pavement – Shady Lane
This song inspired the spirit of the EP as we tried to not iron out any of its personality. It’s quite easy to go into tweak hell and do infinite takes but we often referenced Pavement to try keep it loose and characterful. The reprise at the end of this song justified us having Emmy’s Violin solo in Roman Architecture and made us place it intentionally at the end of side 1 of the EP.
