Edinburgh spotlighted for new music venue opening

Edinburgh has been selected as one of the possible locations for a new music venue from Electric Group.

Insider reported the operator is looking to acquire new properties in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, with a particular focus on city-centre sites.

Electric Group are responsible for Electric Brixton in London and SWX in Bristol, with a Newcastle venue also due to open in 2021.

Their current openings have upcoming gigs including Yonaka, Pvris and The Japanese House, alongside The Script and Razorlight.

The company are looking for a venue to accommodate “around 1,200 people for live performances” to invite fans to “hear their favourite and up and coming bands and artists in more accessible venues, before they hit the arena tour schedules.”

Could Edinburgh finally have a new mid-sized venue in our midst to fill the gap The Picture House left in 2014? Time will tell…
