Mason Hill have released their debut album ‘Against The Wall’.
Recorded in November 2019 at Riverside Studios in Glasgow, the band has already made their mark as it reached the top 20 and shot to number 1 in the UK Rock Chart.
To celebrate their recent album release, we caught up with Mason Hill to discover 5 tracks that influenced ‘Against The Wall’.
Alter Bridge – Blackbird | Listen via Spotify
This song is like a journey, it’s got everything in it from big guitars to soft guitars big vocals to gentle vocals and then, of course, an epic guitar solo. It definitely had an influence on the album especially when it comes to our song ‘Where I Belong’ which also features a big solo and vocals!
APEX – Game soundtrack | Listen via Spotify
While this is not a specific band or song, the game ‘APEX’ has several singles which inspired the use of melodies and ideas which turned into songs on this album such as the intro and verses of ‘We Pray’.
Black Stone Cherry – Rain Wizard | Listen via Spotify
An early song from one of our favourite bands but is an example that inspired us to keep the hard rock element whilst trying to achieve some modern blends on the album.
Shinedown – Devil | Listen via Spotify
Lots of vocals in this song influenced us, not only for always striving for melody but also building vocals. Shinedown have many hard and heavy songs with plenty of that to influence how we approach songs.
Bring Me The Horizon – Happy Song | Listen via Spotify
Upon discovering this band and getting into them during the time we were writing many of the songs for our debut album, Bring Me The Horizon definitely introduced a whole new range of ideas which will most certainly be carried over onto our next album. Current songs like ‘DNA’ from our debut were influenced by Bring Me The Horizon.
