Sapphire | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Corvette’

Sapphire released her new single ‘Corvette’.

Speaking of the single, Sapphire said: “I wrote half of ‘corvette’ in October 2022. I never found the right moment to continue writing it as I knew it needed to feel like the right time. I had a session set up with my co-writer, Alex Stacey, and something told me that the time was right to complete ‘corvette’. I’d never been happier. We wanted to capture all of the sounds of New York in the production – imagine standing in the middle of the street there, with someone playing acoustic guitar on the fire escape above you, someone playing the saxophone to couples walking back from the restaurant, and a car going past playing that perfect driving playlist on the speakers. Also getting to create a story about how I was waiting in the early hours of the morning for a guy to arrive at a New York City bar in his corvette was great fun.”

To celebrate the single’s successes, Sapphire shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Corvette’.

Sabrina Carpenter – Tornado Warnings | Listen via Spotify
The beauty and softness of this song was something that inspired ‘corvette’ hugely. I have a big love for the guitar sounds and also how this is mixed. I think it’s beautiful…and so is Sabrina.

Nessa Barrett – die first | Listen via Spotify
I adore the guitars in this song. The simplicity is stunning, it feels effortless. I definitely wanted to convey something similar in ‘corvette’. I also love how much Nessa’s voice stands out in the mix – it’s so bright and at the forefront of the song.

The 1975 – Sincerity Is Scary | Listen via Spotify
Whenever I hear ’Sincerity Is Scary’, I feel like it reminds me of New York City. It sounds like all of the different parts of NYC in one song. I really wanted that feeling with ‘corvette’ which hopefully can be heard throughout the song.

Taylor Swift – All Of The Girls You Loved Before | Listen via Spotify
This song feels so nostalgic to me. It sounds like falling in love. When creating ‘corvette’, I definitely wanted listeners to feel the same way as I do with ‘All Of The Girls You Loved Before’. It’s also the perfect driving song.

Reneé Rapp – Bruises | Listen via Spotify
God I adore the build in this. Any song that builds is a winner for me. The way this song grows inspired the way ‘corvette’ moves. I also just love Reneé’s writing style, the focus on her vocal range is gorgeous.
