The Young Hearts | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Somewhere Through The Night’

The Young Hearts have released their new album ‘Somewhere Through The Night’.

Speaking of the album, the band said: “‘Somewhere Through The Night’ is the soundtrack to the last few years of The Young Hearts. It encapsulates all the highs and lows throughout the pandemic, the hiatus, and most importantly where we are right now as a band. It’s twelve songs for everyone that still has the desire to follow their greatest ambitions in life, all the while struggling with the expectations that go hand in hand with getting older. With this album, we have managed to take everything we’ve done so far, and push it even further. Our only intention was to write a record that we love, without the pressure that expectation can bring. These are hands down the best songs we’ve ever written, but we’re in such a positive place now, we feel the best is still to come.”

To celebrate their debut album release, The Young Hearts shared with us five tracks that influenced ‘Somewhere Through The Night’.

Bruce Springsteen – Thunder Road | Listen via Spotify
Songs don’t come much better than this one. The opening track for one of the greatest records of all time, telling stories of small-town kids growing up and chasing their hopes and dreams. There’s so much heart behind the words. What you say and how you say it is crucial for a great song, Springsteen just seems to do it effortlessly every time.

The Killers – Caution | Listen via Spotify
We love The Killers, and Imploding the Mirage was a record full of stadium ready anthems. ‘Caution’ perfectly captures the energy we wanted to create with our album. It sounds huge, has an unbelievable chorus and is everything you want from a powerful rock song.

The Bouncing Souls – Kids & Heroes | Listen via Spotify
Genuinely one of my favourite bands of all time, who continue to put out great songs after such a long career. ‘Kids & Heroes’ is an infectious sing a long punk track, that has this beautiful heartfelt intro. They are the masters at crafting brilliantly fun songs whilst still keeping that honest sincerity and integrity throughout.

The Gaslight Anthem – We Did It When We Were Young | Listen via Spotify
I can safely say this band would not exist without The Gaslight Anthem. They just don’t know how to write a bad song. This particular track I love because it’s soulful, and hauntingly beautiful all at once. The way this song continually builds, and the minimalist instrumental approach just has this incredible ambience and weight to it.

The Menzingers – Casey | Listen via Spotify
On ‘The Impossible Past’ is such a special record for me personally. Easily one of the most relatable bands in the scene, they just have a knack for harnessing all the emotions that come with growing up, and channelling it through this melancholic, indie punk attitude. The stories they tell and the scenes they set with their songs just completely suck you in. I love the desperation in Greg Barnett’s vocal delivery, and ‘Casey’ is the perfect example for this.
