Track of the Day | The Shakes – Scrumptious

The Shakes have released their debut EP ‘With Every Moment’.

Out now, the EP features new single ‘Scrumptious’ which has already racked up over 250,000 plays online.

Speaking of the single, frontman Sean Perry explained: “I remember bringing the demo of “Scrumptious” to Josh Brooks (Hybrid Studios, Producer) and saying that I couldn’t think of a name for the song. He said that the melodies and the overall tone of the song were delicious, you almost wanted to eat it. So I decided to name it ‘Scrumptious’.

The origin behind the song comes from the 19th year of my life. It was a pretty bitter time in my life. I was broke (still am), living on my own with some friends, and it was particularly about a ‘famous’ girl that I had a short fling with…I won’t get into details but she was one of those people that always tried to one-up you in every single fucking situation.. if I had something good going on in my life, she would always find a way to reverse is back to her and relate it to her life.. everything she said was literal cringe-worthy.

“The song reflects a brighter melody on a rather darker lyrical perspective. ‘I’m dying with something worth living for, the thought of hell has been killing me’, talks about facing the fears and horrors of life growing out of my adolescence. That’s probably my favorite lyric I’ve ever written.”

Sounding set for summer, ‘Scrumptious’ is an infectious indie single. With a beat to get you grooving, you’ll find yourself bopping along by the time the chorus kicks in.
